By: Guy Starbuck
Looking after your skin properly need not be difficult, if you are aware of the latest products, and the right way to use them. But, to start with, you have to know your skin type:
- Oily Skin: identified by shiny, oily skin patches; more powerful soaps and gels can be safely used by people with oily skin as they are intended to dry the greasy patches. Look out for products that are specially meant as oily skin remedies.
- Dry Skin. Frequently looking inflamed, flaky and scratchy; people with dry skin should not use any products with an alcohol-base as they can make the skin even drier. Only use the gentlest cleansers and soaps. Fresh, clean water works best.
- Normal Skin. Not having any oily or dry areas; people with normal skin has the liberty to use almost any cleanser, soap, or skin-nurturing products of their choice.
Once you recognize your skin type, it become less difficult to comprehend the plethora of products in the market and their varied uses:
Cleansers: While proper skin care ensures that it feels and looks good, it’s necessary to see that you don’t excessively scrub the skin surface in order to stop it from becoming dry and red. Wash your face/body everyday with a gentle facial/skin cleanser. A wide range of cleansers is available in stores. Selecting the correct one hinges largely on the skin type and individual choice. Many specialists concur that abrasive soaps should not be used. The best option is gentle cleansers that do not excessively grease or dry the skin. For people affected with nasty acne, cleansers having antibacterial ingredients, benzoyl peroxide, and salicylic acid, helps eliminate sweat, dirt, and make-up accumulation on the skin, rendering it more agreeable to topical acne remedies.
Masks & Scrubs: must be used once a week for a more penetrating clean. Coarser exfoliating remedies are particularly beneficial for reddish complexions suffering the harmful sun effects. Put on 1-2 times weekly, these deep-cleansing methods leave your skin feeling refreshed and revitalized. For a softer, gentler feel, check out these home treatments:
- Oatmeal and water. Blend equal parts of both to form a coarse mixture. Smear on skin. Allow it to dry. Peel it off, rinsing surplus with fresh, clean water.
- Honey and Banana. Combine 2 tbs. honey with ½ banana. Smear on skin and leave for about 10 minutes, rinsing thoroughly with fresh, clean water.
Toners. Well, toners are an excellent way to provide a skin lift. Intended to close pores and decrease the presence of wrinkles and fine lines, toners help to boost circulation, moisturize skin, and re-establish natural PH levels, leaving the skin glowing healthily. A few natural toners you may consider are:
- Aloe. This natural remedy, which is popular for its calming effects, has been used since hundreds of years to heal damaged skin and promote skin renewal.
Rose Water. This is a natural facial toner that cleans, moisturizes and nurtures any type of skin. - Lavender. An excellent healing remedy for sunburns, and such other skin inflammations, this essential oil indeed is a natural antibacterial, antiviral cleaner that operates to eliminate bacteria and maintains the skin in a healthy and clean state.
Moisturizers. Everyday use a moisturizer to get rid of wrinkles and fine lines and to rejuvenate worn-out and baggy skin. Severe winds, dry air, and freezing temperatures can all further make the skin dry, making it feel scratchy and flaky, and causing wrinkles. All through the day generously slather on an excellent moisturizer that does not have an alcohol base. Your hands particularly need to be moisturized at least 4 to 6 times daily!
